About Pendistrin-SH Intramammary Infusion
Pendistrin-SH is an antibiotic intramammary infusion from Zydus Animal Health. It comes as a 6ml tube with a nozzle that fits into the teat canal, so the medicine goes straight into the infected quarter of the udder.
Zydus lists Pendistrin-SH for acute and chronic mastitis in dairy animals. Mastitis is an infection and inflammation of the udder. Signs include a hot, swollen or painful quarter, clots or flakes in the milk, watery or discoloured milk and a drop in yield. Severe cases can make the animal dull, feverish and off feed.
Treating early protects the quarter and the animal's future milk yield. Your vet will examine the cow or buffalo, may test the milk, and will decide whether Pendistrin-SH is the right treatment and how many tubes to use. Many dairy farmers keep a vet-approved mastitis plan so treatment starts quickly when a case appears.
Pendistrin-SH is made and labelled as an intramammary tube for dairy animals. It is not a skin or wound ointment. Use it only for the purpose your vet prescribes.

Features and Benefits
- Goes straight to the udder. The nozzle delivers the antibiotic into the teat canal of the infected quarter, where the infection is.
- For acute and chronic mastitis. Zydus lists it for both sudden (acute) and long-running (chronic) cases.
- Single-use tubes. Each 6ml tube is one dose for one quarter, which keeps treatment simple and clean.
- Vet-planned treatment. Your vet sets how many tubes to use and how often, based on the case.
How It Works
- Antibiotic in the quarter. The antibiotic acts inside the udder tissue and milk ducts against the bacteria causing mastitis.
- Repeated after milking. Giving a tube after each milking keeps the medicine at work in the quarter between milkings.
How to Use
- Milk out first. Strip the infected quarter completely so the medicine is not diluted by old milk.
- Clean the teat. Wash and dry the teat, then wipe the teat end with a swab soaked in surgical spirit. Use a fresh swab for each teat.
- Instil the tube. Insert the nozzle gently into the teat canal and squeeze in the whole tube. Hold the teat end and massage the quarter upwards to spread the medicine.
- How often. Zydus directs one tube every 12 hours, or after each regular milking. Acute cases usually need 1 to 6 tubes and chronic cases 1 to 3, as your vet decides. Treatment may be repeated once or twice at 48 hour intervals if needed.
- Storage. Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Keep out of reach of children.
Safety and Precautions
- Milk withdrawal. Do not use milk for people from treated animals until 60 hours after the last treatment, as directed by Zydus. Discard milk from all quarters during this time.
- Mark treated animals clearly so their milk is kept separate.
- Do not use in animals allergic to penicillins.
- Use a new tube for each quarter and do not reuse nozzles.
- If the animal is dull, feverish or off feed, call your vet straight away. Severe mastitis may need injectable treatment and fluids as well.
