Wahl KM5 2-Speed Corded Professional Pet Clipper

About Wahl KM5 Professional Clipper

If you groom at home or are learning to groom, a reliable two-speed clipper makes the job far easier than scissors. Wahl KM5 is a corded professional clipper for dogs, cats and other animals, with a rotary motor and two speeds of 3,000 and 3,500 strokes per minute.

Constant Speed Control keeps the blade moving steadily through thick, coarse or matted coat, and the motor runs quietly enough for noise-sensitive pets. It weighs 12.9 ounces and has an ergonomic body for comfortable handling.

The KM5 uses Wahl's detachable blades and comes with a #10 Ultimate Competition Series blade and blade oil. Wahl recommends it for beginner and learning groomers.

It suits pet parents who want to keep a short summer trim at home, new groomers building their kit, and clinics that need a dependable clipper for clipping before procedures. Because the blades detach, one clipper can do body work with a #10 and closer work with a #40, and a dull blade can be swapped in seconds without stopping the groom.

Like all professional clippers, it rewards good care. Clean, oiled and cool blades cut better, last longer and are far more comfortable for the animal.

Choosing a Blade

Higher blade numbers cut shorter. Wahl sells other detachable blades and comb attachments for longer lengths.

How to Use

• Prepare the coat. Bathe, dry and brush out tangles first.
• Oil the blade. Add a few drops of oil before and during use.
• Clip with the coat. Move in the direction of hair growth with the blade flat.
• Check heat. Touch the blade often and stop if it gets warm.
• Double coats. Thick double coats are usually brushed and thinned rather than shaved. Ask a groomer before clipping one short.
• Practice. Start with short sessions on easy areas like the back, with treats, so your pet stays relaxed.
• Clean and store. Brush out hair, oil the blade and store safely.

Safety and Precautions

• Blade heat. A hot blade can burn. Check every few minutes.
• Delicate areas. Go slowly on ears, armpits, belly and skin folds.
• Electrical safety. Keep away from water and unplug when changing blades.
• Stressed pets. If your pet panics, stop and try again later in shorter sessions. Severe fear or matting is best handled by a groomer or vet.
