Read this before you put anything on your cat. Do not buy a cream containing clobetasol, betamethasone, beclometasone or mometasone unless your vet named that exact product. Those are potent human steroids, and a cat licks its coat clean, so a cream is a dose. Never put tea tree oil, permethrin, propoxur or minoxidil on a cat in any form. Each sits on shelves beside things that are fine.

What Antifungal Cream for Cats Costs
Creams here run ₹2.43 to ₹14.90 per gram, a six times spread on tubes that look identical. Sprays run ₹2.20 to ₹3.90 per mL. Oral itraconazole is ₹4.30 per mL as a syrup, or ₹20.63 to ₹37.50 a capsule. Divide before you compare.
Cheapest gram is Vetkrem-C at ₹2.43, dearest is Freossi Frelucon at ₹14.90. Both are azoles, so the gap is brand, not chemistry.

Check the pack size before the price. The same active turns up in tubes from 10gm to 50gm, and the biggest is not automatically the best value. Work out the per gram figure and buy on that.

Why a Cream Is the Wrong Shape for a Cat
A cat removes most of what you put on it within the hour. That single fact changes everything about topical medicine in cats and almost no product label mentions it.
It matters more in cats than in dogs for a reason. The Merck Veterinary Manual explains that cats "are more sensitive because they are deficient in the enzyme glucuronyl transferase", the liver pathway that packages many drugs and plant compounds for disposal. It adds that "cats' natural grooming behavior places them at additional risk from both dermal and oral exposures."
So a cat gets a double penalty. It swallows a higher share of whatever you apply, and it clears that swallowed dose more slowly. A cream that is harmless on a person and tolerable on a dog can be neither on a cat.
What follows in practice:

Ringworm: What Actually Clears It
Ringworm is not a worm. It is a fungus, usually Microsporum canis, and it is the single commonest reason a cat needs an antifungal.
The World Association for Veterinary Dermatology consensus is direct about what works. "Successful treatment requires concurrent use of systemic oral antifungals and topical disinfection of the hair coat." On the tablet, "itraconazole (non-compounded) and terbinafine are the most effective and safe treatments for dermatophytosis." On the topical, "twice weekly application of lime sulfur, enilconazole or a miconazole/chlorhexidine shampoo are currently recommended effective topical therapies."
And on creams specifically: "For localized treatment, clotrimazole, miconazole and enilconazole have some data to document effectiveness. These are recommended as concurrent treatments, but not as sole therapy." The European ABCD feline guideline says the same thing more plainly: "Spot treatment of lesions may be of limited efficacy; instead, whole-body shampooing, dipping or rinsing is recommended."
Spores sit on the whole coat, not only on the bald patch. That is why the patch you treat heals and a new one appears a fortnight later somewhere else.
Expect ten weeks, not ten days. ABCD advises treating "for at least 10 weeks", and stopping only when the fungus "can no longer be cultured from the hairs on at least 2 sequential brushings 1-3 weeks apart". A cat that looks cured can still be shedding spores onto your sofa.
Ringworm Spreads to People, and to Your Other Cats
"Dermatophytosis is a known zoonosis and causes skin lesions which are treatable and curable," the WAVD consensus states. Children, elderly relatives and anyone on immune-suppressing medicine catch it most easily.
A round, red, scaly, itchy patch with a clearer centre on a human arm, neck or scalp, appearing within a fortnight of a cat developing bald patches, is worth showing a doctor. It is curable and not serious in a healthy adult.

The Steroid Creams on This Page
Many combination creams sold for skin problems contain a potent corticosteroid alongside the antifungal. On the label it may read clobetasol, betamethasone, beclometasone, mometasone or fluticasone.
They work fast, and that is the trap. The itch stops in two days, so it looks like the right product. What has happened is that the inflammation is suppressed while the fungus underneath carries on, and steroid on a fungal lesion can make the infection spread further and harder to culture.

Not Every Cat Rash Is Fungal
Buying an antifungal for a rash nobody has looked at treats one cause out of six. These are the others, and they need different things.

Flea allergy. The commonest itch in Mumbai. Scabs along the spine and at the tail base. One flea is enough in a sensitised cat, and you will often see no fleas at all

Food allergy. Itchy face, neck and ears, often with no fleas and a normal fungal culture. Diagnosed by a diet trial, not a blood test

Atopy. Environmental allergy. Seasonal at first, then year round. Ciclosporin is the licensed long term treatment

Miliary dermatitis. Crusty bumps you feel before you see. A pattern, not a diagnosis, and it has several causes

Eosinophilic granuloma. A raised pink plaque or a swollen lip. Looks alarming and is immune driven, not infectious

Bacterial infection. Usually secondary to scratching. Needs an antibiotic, not an antifungal

Over-grooming from stress or pain. A bald belly with intact skin underneath. No cream fixes it

How to Get a Cream Onto a Cat and Keep It There
