- Elemental Iron (as Ferric Ammonium Citrate / Iron Polymaltose Complex) the cornerstone active ingredient of every haematinic formulation, elemental iron is the essential mineral substrate required for haemoglobin synthesis the oxygen-carrying protein within red blood cells. Iron deficiency is the single most common nutritional cause of anaemia in dogs and cats, particularly in growing puppies and kittens, pregnant and lactating females, and animals recovering from parasitic blood loss or chronic illness.
