It is active against the majority of Gram-positive organisms including Staphylococcus aureus (including MRSA), Streptococcus species, and Enterococcus and most clinically significant Gram-negative bacteria including Escherichia coli, Klebsiella, and Enterobacter. Importantly, chlorhexidine's antiseptic efficacy is not significantly compromised by the presence of blood or serum a clinically critical property given that wound environments are inherently protein-rich. Chlorhexidine Acetate is released slowly and continuously from the paraffin matrix over time, providing sustained antimicrobial protection at the wound surface across the dressing wear period.

How to Use:
Wash hands thoroughly before and after wound treatment. Gently cleanse the wound and surrounding skin with sterile normal saline or an appropriate wound cleansing solution. Pat the surrounding skin dry. Peel open the foil sachet aseptically. If required, cut the Bactigras dressing to the appropriate size and shape to cover the wound the leno-weave resists fraying when cut. Apply a single layer of Bactigras directly onto the wound surface, ensuring the dressing lies flat and in full contact with the entire wound bed. Do not overlap multiple layers of Bactigras. Cover the Bactigras dressing with an appropriate secondary absorbent dressing such as a non-woven pad or low-adherent absorbent wound dressing and secure in place with a suitable adhesive tape or bandage.
Dressing change frequency depends on the clinical condition of the wound and the volume of exudate; on average, dressings may be changed every 2 to 4 days, though daily changes may be required for highly exuding or contaminated wounds. In cases of active infection, always use in conjunction with prescribed systemic antibacterial therapy as directed by your physician or veterinarian. Bactigras should be applied to wounds covering no more than 10% of body surface area in adults, and no more than 10% in companion animals unless specifically directed by a veterinarian. Do not use on patients or animals with known hypersensitivity to chlorhexidine. For veterinary use, application should be performed by or under the guidance of a licensed veterinarian.
Storage Advice:
Store Bactigras dressings flat in a cool, dry place below 25°C away from direct sunlight and heat sources. Do not freeze. Keep in the original foil-sealed pouches until the point of use once the foil pouch is opened, the dressing must be used immediately and should not be re-sealed or stored for later use, as sterility cannot be guaranteed once the pack is breached. Do not resterilise unused or opened dressings. Keep out of reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date printed on the individual foil pouch and outer box.
