How to Use

Butrum 2mg Injection must only be administered by or under the direct supervision of a licensed veterinarian. It is intended for intravenous (IV) or intramuscular (IM) administration only. Subcutaneous (SC) administration is not recommended as absorption is erratic and clinical effect is unpredictable.

Contraindications:

• Do not use in animals with known hypersensitivity or allergy to buprenorphine or any opioid compound.
• Avoid use in animals with severe respiratory compromise, head trauma, or raised intracranial pressure.
• Do not use in animals with Addison's disease (hypoadrenocorticism), severe kidney disease, or significant liver impairment without specialist veterinary monitoring.
• Avoid use in pregnant or lactating animals buprenorphine crosses the placenta and is excreted in breast milk, posing risk of neonatal respiratory depression.
• Do not co-administer with monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) including selegiline or amitraz-based tick products risk of serotonin syndrome and dangerous blood pressure fluctuation.
• Use with caution alongside CNS depressants including barbiturates, antihistamines, phenothiazine tranquillisers, and benzodiazepines, as additive sedation and cardiovascular depression may occur.

Drug Interactions to Declare to Your Veterinarian:

• Azole antifungals (ketoconazole, itraconazole, fluconazole) and erythromycin may increase blood plasma levels of buprenorphine.
• Naloxone will reverse the analgesic and sedative effects of buprenorphine and should be available wherever opioid analgesia is administered.

Storage Advice

Store Butrum 2mg Injection ampoules at room temperature between 20°C and 25°C. Protect from direct light, excessive heat above 40°C, and freezing. Keep in original packaging until point of use. Discard any unused portion of the ampoule immediately after single use do not store open ampoules. As a Schedule H controlled substance, store in a locked, secure cabinet with access restricted to authorised veterinary personnel only. Keep out of reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date printed on the ampoule.
