Ingredients:
Cedrus deodara Oil (Deodar Oil) 50% w/w:Derived from the heartwood of the Himalayan cedar tree Cedrus deodara, deodar oil is the primary active constituent of Charmil Spray and is standardised at a high 50% w/w concentration to ensure consistent therapeutic potency. At the cellular level, the bioactive sesquiterpene compounds within deodar oil, including himachalol and beta-himachalene, exert their antibacterial action by disrupting the integrity of bacterial cell membranes, inhibiting cell wall synthesis, and interfering with microbial respiratory enzyme function, leading to loss of viability in wound-colonising organisms. Its anti-inflammatory properties are mediated through inhibition of pro-inflammatory mediator pathways, reducing tissue oedema, hyperaemia, and the associated pain response at the wound site. Deodar oil has been documented in traditional Ayurvedic practice and supported by contemporary phytochemical research for its vulnerary properties, stimulating fibroblast proliferation and supporting the regeneration of dermal tissue during wound closure. Its additional antifungal activity contributes to the product's broad-spectrum efficacy against dermatophytic and opportunistic fungal organisms that frequently colonise compromised skin.
Pongamia glabra Oil (Karanj Oil) 11% w/w:Karanj oil, extracted from the seeds of Pongamia glabra (syn. Millettia pinnata), is a well-established medicinal oil in Ayurvedic veterinary practice, included in Charmil Spray at 11% w/w for its potent antifungal and vulnerary contributions. Its principal bioactive compounds, including karanjin, pongapin, and pongamol, are flavonoid derivatives with demonstrated activity against a range of fungal species including Aspergillus, Candida, and Trichophyton, disrupting fungal membrane sterols and inhibiting spore germination. Karanjin also contributes anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects by suppressing key inflammatory enzymes, soothing inflamed, pruritic skin and reducing the scratching behaviour that often worsens skin integrity in animals suffering from mange and scabies. Its vulnerary action promotes the formation of healthy granulation tissue, supports epidermal regeneration, and has been traditionally applied to accelerate the resolution of deep-seated and infected wounds that resist healing.
Azadirachta indica Oil (Neem Oil) q.s.:Neem oil, derived from the seeds of Azadirachta indica, functions as the insect-repellent and secondary antimicrobial pillar of the Charmil Spray formulation. Its primary bioactive compound, azadirachtin, along with nimbin and nimbidin, acts as a potent ectoparasiticidal and insect-deterrent agent by disrupting the moulting hormones and neurotransmitter systems of flies, mites, and other insects, preventing them from landing, feeding, and laying larvae on open wounds. This fly-repellent action is especially critical in maggot-infested wounds, where secondary fly strike dramatically compounds tissue damage and infection risk. Neem oil's antimicrobial properties contribute an additional layer of protection against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria at the wound surface, while its nimbidin content delivers anti-inflammatory relief that complements the actions of deodar and karanj oils in the overall formulation.
