GENTAVET INJ (L)

TTK Healthcare Gentavet Veterinary Injection (100ml) a pharmaceutical-grade, broad-spectrum aminoglycoside antibiotic formulation containing Gentamicin Sulphate IP 40mg per ml, specifically developed and indicated for veterinary use in the management of serious bacterial infections in companion animals and livestock. Gentamicin is one of the most clinically relied-upon bactericidal antibiotics in veterinary medicine, reserved for infections caused by pathogens that are resistant to, or inadequately controlled by, first-line antibiotics including those caused by gram-negative bacilli such as Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Klebsiella, and Enterobacter species, as well as certain gram-positive organisms including Staphylococcus species. Gentavet delivers rapid, therapeutically effective serum concentrations within 1 hour of intramuscular administration, with bactericidal activity sustained for 6 to 12 hours making it the preferred choice of veterinarians managing acute, serious, and potentially life-threatening bacterial infections across dogs, cats, cattle, and other domestic animals. Animeal is proud to offer Gentavet Injection from TTK Healthcare Limited a company with a veterinary healthcare legacy stretching back to 1982 and a reputation among Indian veterinary practitioners as one of the most trusted names in animal health to veterinary professionals and informed pet parents across India.
- Gentamicin Sulphate IP equivalent to Gentamicin 40mg: Gentamicin is a mixture of aminoglycoside antibiotics primarily the C1, C1a, and C2 complex derived from the fermentation of Micromonospora purpurea, an actinomycete soil organism. As an aminoglycoside, gentamicin exerts its bactericidal effect through a highly specific mechanism: it irreversibly binds to the 30S ribosomal subunit of susceptible bacteria, causing misreading of the mRNA genetic code during protein translation. This results in the incorporation of incorrect amino acids into nascent bacterial proteins, producing non-functional or destructive aberrant proteins that disrupt bacterial cell membrane integrity, causing rapid loss of intracellular contents and cell death. Unlike bacteriostatic antibiotics, gentamicin produces concentration-dependent killing meaning higher peak plasma concentrations relative to the Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) directly correlate with greater bactericidal efficacy and faster bacterial eradication. Gentamicin demonstrates post-antibiotic effect (PAE) against gram-negative organisms, meaning bacterial suppression continues for several hours beyond the period of active drug exposure a pharmacodynamic property that supports once-daily dosing protocols increasingly favoured in veterinary practice. It is active against Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Proteus species (indole-positive and -negative), Escherichia coli, Klebsiella species, Enterobacter species, Alcaligenes species, and Staphylococcus species.
- Methyl Paraben IP 0.18% w/v: A pharmaceutical-grade antimicrobial preservative that prevents microbial contamination and growth within the multi-dose vial across its in-use period, maintaining sterility between successive draws.
- Propyl Paraben IP 0.02% w/v: Works synergistically with Methyl Paraben as part of a complementary dual-preservative system, extending antimicrobial coverage across a broader range of potential contaminant organisms to maintain vial sterility throughout the product shelf life.
- Water for Injection IP: The sterile, pyrogen-free aqueous vehicle, manufactured to pharmacopoeial specification, forming the solution base of the injectable formulation.
