About Product
TTK Healthcare Gentavet Veterinary Injection (100ml) a pharmaceutical-grade, broad-spectrum aminoglycoside antibiotic formulation containing Gentamicin Sulphate IP 40mg per ml, specifically developed and indicated for veterinary use in the management of serious bacterial infections in companion animals and livestock. Gentamicin is one of the most clinically relied-upon bactericidal antibiotics in veterinary medicine, reserved for infections caused by pathogens that are resistant to, or inadequately controlled by, first-line antibiotics including those caused by gram-negative bacilli such as Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Klebsiella, and Enterobacter species, as well as certain gram-positive organisms including Staphylococcus species. Gentavet delivers rapid, therapeutically effective serum concentrations within 1 hour of intramuscular administration, with bactericidal activity sustained for 6 to 12 hours making it the preferred choice of veterinarians managing acute, serious, and potentially life-threatening bacterial infections across dogs, cats, cattle, and other domestic animals. Animeal is proud to offer Gentavet Injection from TTK Healthcare Limited a company with a veterinary healthcare legacy stretching back to 1982 and a reputation among Indian veterinary practitioners as one of the most trusted names in animal health to veterinary professionals and informed pet parents across India.
- Gentamicin Sulphate IP equivalent to Gentamicin 40mg: Gentamicin is a mixture of aminoglycoside antibiotics primarily the C1, C1a, and C2 complex derived from the fermentation of Micromonospora purpurea, an actinomycete soil organism. As an aminoglycoside, gentamicin exerts its bactericidal effect through a highly specific mechanism: it irreversibly binds to the 30S ribosomal subunit of susceptible bacteria, causing misreading of the mRNA genetic code during protein translation. This results in the incorporation of incorrect amino acids into nascent bacterial proteins, producing non-functional or destructive aberrant proteins that disrupt bacterial cell membrane integrity, causing rapid loss of intracellular contents and cell death. Unlike bacteriostatic antibiotics, gentamicin produces concentration-dependent killing meaning higher peak plasma concentrations relative to the Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) directly correlate with greater bactericidal efficacy and faster bacterial eradication. Gentamicin demonstrates post-antibiotic effect (PAE) against gram-negative organisms, meaning bacterial suppression continues for several hours beyond the period of active drug exposure a pharmacodynamic property that supports once-daily dosing protocols increasingly favoured in veterinary practice. It is active against Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Proteus species (indole-positive and -negative), Escherichia coli, Klebsiella species, Enterobacter species, Alcaligenes species, and Staphylococcus species.
- Methyl Paraben IP 0.18% w/v: A pharmaceutical-grade antimicrobial preservative that prevents microbial contamination and growth within the multi-dose vial across its in-use period, maintaining sterility between successive draws.
- Propyl Paraben IP 0.02% w/v: Works synergistically with Methyl Paraben as part of a complementary dual-preservative system, extending antimicrobial coverage across a broader range of potential contaminant organisms to maintain vial sterility throughout the product shelf life.
- Water for Injection IP: The sterile, pyrogen-free aqueous vehicle, manufactured to pharmacopoeial specification, forming the solution base of the injectable formulation.
Features and Benefits
Broad-Spectrum Bactericidal Activity Rapid and ...
- Broad-Spectrum Bactericidal Activity Rapid and Concentration-Dependent: Gentamicin's irreversible 30S ribosomal binding mechanism produces rapid, concentration-dependent killing of susceptible gram-negative and gram-positive organisms, achieving bactericidal serum concentrations within 1 hour of intramuscular injection that are sustained for 6 to 12 hours per dose. This rapid action profile is particularly critical in the management of acute, serious, and life-threatening infections where time to bacterial eradication directly impacts patient outcomes.
- Exceptional Urinary Tract Penetration: Gentamicin is excreted almost entirely via glomerular filtration, with 50 to 100% of the administered dose recovered unchanged in urine producing urinary drug concentrations dramatically exceeding serum levels and the MICs of common uropathogens. This makes Gentavet uniquely effective for complicated and recurrent bacterial UTIs in dogs and cats where oral antibiotics have failed.
- Post-Antibiotic Effect Extended Bacterial Suppression: Gentamicin exhibits a clinically meaningful post-antibiotic effect (PAE) against gram-negative organisms, suppressing bacterial regrowth for several hours beyond the duration of measurable drug exposure. This PAE supports the pharmacological rationale for once-daily high-dose dosing regimens, reduces the cumulative dose required, and may minimise nephrotoxic risk when administered under veterinary guidance.
- Synergistic Combination Partner: Gentamicin is a highly effective combination antibiotic partner for beta-lactam agents penicillins, ampicillin, and cephalosporins where co-administration produces additive to synergistic killing, broadens the effective spectrum, and improves outcomes in mixed infections or cases with organisms showing borderline susceptibility to either agent alone.
- Efficacy Unaffected by Serum and Blood: Unlike some antimicrobials whose activity is significantly impaired by serum proteins or wound fluid, gentamicin retains strong bactericidal activity in the biological environments encountered during systemic infection a property that supports its reliability in bacteraemic and severely infected animals.
- Stable Multi-Dose 100ml Vial: Gentavet is presented in a 100ml multi-dose vial, providing a practical and cost-effective format for veterinary clinic and farm use where multiple animals may require treatment or where repeated dosing of a single patient is required over a course of therapy.
- Manufactured to IP Standards with Dual Preservative System: The formulation uses pharmaceutical-grade Gentamicin Sulphate IP with a complementary Methyl Paraben and Propyl Paraben preservative system, maintaining vial sterility across the in-use period and ensuring consistent potency and safety with each successive dose drawn.
Usage and Applications

How to Use:
Gentavet Veterinary Injection must be administered by or under the direct supervision of a licensed veterinarian. It is not for self-administration by pet owners outside of professional veterinary direction. The injection may be administered via the intramuscular (I/M), subcutaneous (S/Q), or intravenous (I/V) route, as determined by the treating veterinarian based on the clinical condition and species being treated.
Storage Advice:
Store unopened Gentavet Veterinary Injection vials in a cool, dry place between 2°C and 30°C, away from direct sunlight and heat sources. Do not freeze freezing will compromise the integrity of the solution. Once the vial is broached for use, maintain strict aseptic technique with each draw, disinfecting the stopper with 70% alcohol before every needle insertion. Once opened, store at controlled room temperature and use within the manufacturer's recommended in-use period discard any unused solution if contamination is suspected or if the solution shows visible discolouration or particulate matter. Keep out of reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date printed on the vial label and outer carton.
