Composition:
Each Mastiwok pre-filled intramammary syringe contains a precisely formulated pharmaceutical composition for direct intramammary delivery:
- Cefoperazone Sodium 250mg (Active Ingredient) a third-generation, broad-spectrum cephalosporin antibiotic that exerts its bactericidal activity by irreversibly binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) in the bacterial cell wall, thereby inhibiting the final transpeptidation step of peptidoglycan synthesis the structural polymer essential for maintaining bacterial cell wall integrity. This binding causes progressive weakening and eventual lysis of the bacterial cell wall, resulting in rapid bacterial cell death. Cefoperazone's third-generation cephalosporin classification confers significantly enhanced stability against beta-lactamase enzymatic degradation compared to first and second-generation cephalosporins maintaining bactericidal efficacy against many beta-lactamase-producing bacterial strains that would inactivate earlier-generation agents
- Dispersible Mineral Oil Base: a pharmaceutical-grade, viscous mineral oil vehicle that serves as the intramammary delivery base, ensuring the active ingredient is uniformly suspended and retained within the mammary gland cistern for an extended duration after infusion maximising the tissue contact time and local drug concentration required for complete bactericidal efficacy against all mastitis pathogens present in the affected quarter
- Aluminium Monostearate (Gelling Agent): a pharmaceutical excipient that contributes to the characteristic semi-viscous, gel-like consistency of the intramammary suspension ensuring optimal retention of the antibiotic within the udder cistern and teat canal after infusion, preventing premature drainage and maintaining therapeutic drug concentrations at the site of infection throughout the treatment period
- Lecithin (Emulsifier & Spreading Agent): a naturally derived phospholipid emulsifier that facilitates the uniform distribution and spreading of the antibiotic suspension throughout the mammary gland cistern and ductular system, ensuring comprehensive coverage of all infected tissue surfaces within the treated quarter
