About Product

Petvomi-Fix Injection (Ondansetron 2mg/ml 10ml Vial) is a potent, fast-acting veterinary antiemetic injection formulated for the effective control of severe and acute vomiting in dogs and cats. As a selective 5-HT3 (serotonin) receptor antagonist, Ondansetron works at the very root of the vomiting reflex blocking the serotonin signals that trigger nausea and emesis at both the chemoreceptor trigger zone (CTZ) in the brain and the peripheral vagal nerve terminals in the gastrointestinal tract. Petvomi-Fix is widely recognised as the drug of choice for managing chemotherapy-induced emesis, postoperative nausea, parvoviral vomiting, and other causes of intractable vomiting in companion animals delivering rapid, reliable relief where standard antiemetics fall short. Animeal is proud to offer Petvomi-Fix Injection as part of its carefully curated veterinary medicine range, reaffirming our commitment to vet-grade, clinically dependable solutions for the health and wellbeing of your beloved companion animal.

Composition:

Each ml contains:

  • Ondansetron Hydrochloride IP 2mg: A highly selective 5-HT3 receptor antagonist; competitively blocks serotonin binding at 5-HT3 receptors located on vagal afferent nerve terminals in the gastrointestinal mucosa and at the chemoreceptor trigger zone (CTZ) in the area postrema of the medulla preventing the initiation and propagation of the vomiting reflex at its neurological source rather than merely suppressing peripheral gut motility.
  • Sodium Chloride IP q.s.: Pharmaceutical-grade isotonic saline carrier maintaining solution osmolarity within physiological range for safe intravenous and intramuscular administration.
  • Water for Injection IP q.s.: Sterile aqueous vehicle ensuring solution clarity, pH stability, and injectable compatibility.

Features and Benefits

Selective 5-HT3 Receptor Antagonism Targets the...

Selective 5-HT3 Receptor Antagonism Targets the Root Cause of Vomiting: Unlike metoclopramide or maropitant-class antiemetics that act on dopamine or neurokinin-1 receptors, Ondansetron's selective blockade of 5-HT3 serotonergic receptors both centrally at the CTZ and peripherally at vagal GI terminals makes it uniquely effective against the serotonin-mediated vomiting pathways activated by cytotoxic chemotherapy, uraemia, gastroenteritis, and parvoviral infection.

Drug of Choice for Chemotherapy-Induced Emesis: Petvomi-Fix is clinically established as the first-line antiemetic for dogs and cats undergoing cytotoxic chemotherapy protocols where cisplatin, doxorubicin, and cyclophosphamide trigger massive peripheral serotonin release from enterochromaffin cells in the gut wall, overwhelming conventional antiemetics. Ondansetron's direct 5-HT3 blockade suppresses this chemotherapy-induced emetic cascade with unmatched efficacy.

Rapid Onset via IV or IM Administration: Petvomi-Fix achieves therapeutic plasma concentrations within minutes of intravenous administration, providing rapid clinical control of active vomiting essential in emergency presentations involving dehydration, aspiration risk, or post-surgical nausea where immediate antiemetic effect is critical.

Effective Across a Wide Range of Emetic Causes: Beyond chemotherapy, Ondansetron has demonstrated clinical efficacy in managing vomiting associated with parvoviral enteritis, renal failure (uraemic vomiting), vestibular disorders, postoperative nausea, pancreatitis-associated vomiting, and intractable vomiting of undetermined origin in dogs and cats.

Excellent Safety Profile with Minimal Sedation: Ondansetron does not cross the blood-brain barrier significantly at clinical doses and carries no meaningful dopaminergic, anticholinergic, or sedative activity making it one of the safest antiemetics for use in critically ill, haemodynamically compromised, or post-anaesthetic animals where sedation or cardiovascular depression must be avoided.

Convenient Multi-Dose 10ml Vial: The 10ml vial format provides multiple doses per vial allowing efficient use in clinical and hospital settings, enabling dose titration across different patient sizes, and supporting sustained antiemetic management over the course of a hospitalisation period or chemotherapy cycle.

Usage and Applications

How to Use

Petvomi-Fix Injection must be administered exclusively by or under the direct supervision of a licensed veterinarian. It is indicated for intravenous (IV) or intramuscular (IM) administration. For IV use, administer slowly over a minimum of 2 to 5 minutes rapid IV bolus is not recommended. The vial should be inspected visually before use do not use if the solution is discoloured, cloudy, or contains visible particulates.

Contraindications:

  • Do not use in animals with known hypersensitivity or allergy to ondansetron or any other 5-HT3 receptor antagonist.
  • Use with caution in animals with pre-existing hepatic impairment ondansetron is extensively metabolised by the liver and plasma clearance may be significantly reduced, increasing the risk of dose-dependent side effects.
  • Do not use concurrently with apomorphine in dogs ondansetron antagonises the emetic effect of apomorphine and will render it ineffective if used for induction of vomiting in toxin ingestion cases.
  • Use with caution alongside QT-prolonging medications ondansetron has a dose-dependent QT-prolonging effect on cardiac conduction and concurrent use with other QT-prolonging drugs (certain antibiotics, antifungals, or cardiac medications) requires ECG monitoring under veterinary supervision.
  • Not recommended as a standalone treatment in cases where vomiting is a protective reflex always treat the underlying cause concurrently.

Storage Advice:

Store Petvomi-Fix Injection vials at room temperature between 20°C and 25°C. Protect from direct light store in original outer carton until point of use. Do not freeze. Once the vial has been broached (opened), use within 28 days and store refrigerated between 2°C and 8°C. Discard any remaining solution if discolouration, cloudiness, or particulates are observed. Keep out of reach of children and non-target animals. Do not use after the expiry date printed on the vial label.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Petvomi-Fix Injection suitable for both dogs and cats?

Yes, Petvomi-Fix Injection (Ondansetron 2mg/ml) is clinically used in both dogs and cats for the management of severe and acute vomiting across a range of underlying causes including chemotherapy-induced emesis, parvoviral gastroenteritis, uraemic vomiting, postoperative nausea, and pancreatitis-associated vomiting. It must only be administered under the prescription and direct supervision of a registered veterinarian. Animals with known hypersensitivity to ondansetron or with significant hepatic impairment require special assessment before use

How often should Petvomi-Fix Injection be administered?

The standard dosing interval for Petvomi-Fix in dogs and cats is every 6 to 12 hours via intravenous or intramuscular injection, depending on the severity of vomiting and the underlying cause. For chemotherapy protocols, it is typically administered 30 minutes prior to cytotoxic drug infusion and repeated every 6 to 8 hours post-treatment for 24 to 48 hours. All dosing frequency and duration decisions are made exclusively by the attending veterinarian based on clinical response.

How effective is Petvomi-Fix for chemotherapy-induced vomiting?

Petvomi-Fix is widely regarded as the drug of choice for chemotherapy-induced emesis in dogs and cats particularly for cisplatin-based protocols in dogs, where serotonin-mediated vomiting is the dominant emetic pathway. Its selective 5-HT3 receptor blockade directly neutralises the serotonin cascade triggered by cytotoxic chemotherapy agents at both the gut wall and the chemoreceptor trigger zone, delivering superior antiemetic control compared to dopamine-receptor antiemetics such as metoclopramide in this specific clinical context.

Are there any side effects associated with Petvomi-Fix Injection?

Petvomi-Fix is generally well tolerated in dogs and cats at clinical doses. The most commonly reported effects include mild, transient constipation a predictable consequence of reduced gastrointestinal serotonergic activity and occasional mild sedation in some individuals. At higher doses or in animals with hepatic compromise, dose-dependent QT interval prolongation on cardiac conduction may occur, particularly when co-administered with other QT-prolonging medications. Cardiac monitoring is recommended in at-risk patients. Contact your veterinarian immediately if your animal displays signs of cardiac arrhythmia, unusual weakness, or severe constipation during treatment.
