About Product

Virbac Rabigen Mono the globally recommended, veterinarian-trusted inactivated rabies vaccine formulated for the active immunisation of dogs, cats, cattle, horses, and in principle all mammals against rabies. Rabies remains one of the most devastating and invariably fatal zoonotic viral diseases known to medicine a disease that kills tens of thousands of people and countless animals worldwide every year, and one for which there is no cure once clinical signs appear. Vaccination is the single most effective intervention available to protect your pet against this deadly virus, fulfil your legal obligation as a responsible pet parent in India, and contribute to the global drive towards rabies elimination. Rabigen Mono, containing the inactivated VP12 rabies virus strain at a potency of greater than 1.0 International Units per dose meeting and exceeding the minimum protective threshold established by international regulatory authorities is internationally recognised for achieving high virus-neutralising antibody (VNA) titres that confer reliable, long-lasting immune protection. As an approved veterinary vaccine imported and distributed in India by Virbac Animal Health India Pvt. Ltd. under CDSCO Import Permit IMP-248/2014, and manufactured by the world's sixth largest pure-play veterinary biopharmaceutical group, Rabigen Mono is the most trusted anti-rabies vaccine available to Indian pet parents and veterinary professionals today. Animeal is proud to offer this life-saving vaccine to every dog and cat parent across India.

Composition:

  • Inactivated VP12 Rabies Virus Strain >1.0 International Units (IU) per dose: The VP12 strain is a fixed, cell-culture-adapted rabies virus strain propagated under controlled laboratory conditions, inactivated using established viricidal processes that eliminate all live viral replication capacity while preserving the immunogenic surface glycoprotein (rG) structures critical for triggering a protective immune response. The minimum potency threshold of >1.0 IU per dose is the global standard established by the WHO and OIE (World Organisation for Animal Health) as the minimum titre required to confer protective immunity against field rabies virus challenge in vaccinated animals. Rabigen Mono consistently meets and exceeds this threshold, producing high virus-neutralising antibody (VNA) titres following vaccination the measurable immunological marker of protective immunity. The immune response to inactivated rabies vaccine is driven primarily by the generation of VNA directed against the rabies glycoprotein, with protective titres achieved within 14 to 28 days of primary vaccination and sustained through the recommended annual or triennial booster schedule.
  • Aluminium Hydroxide Gel 10% v/v (Adjuvant): Aluminium hydroxide (alum) is the most widely used and extensively safety-characterised vaccine adjuvant in both human and veterinary immunology. As a depot adjuvant, aluminium hydroxide slows the release of the inactivated viral antigen from the injection site, prolonging antigen presentation to the immune system and dramatically amplifying the magnitude, quality, and duration of the humoral (antibody-mediated) immune response compared to antigen alone. Alum promotes uptake by antigen-presenting cells (APCs), enhances B-cell activation and antibody class-switching, and supports the generation of long-lived plasma cells and memory B-cells the cellular basis for sustained immunological protection between booster doses.
  • Thiomersal IP 0.01% w/v (Preservative): An organomercury preservative used at a very low, pharmacopoeially specified concentration to prevent microbial contamination of the multi-dose vaccine vial throughout its in-use period. Thiomersal at 0.01% w/v is the internationally accepted standard preservative concentration in veterinary vaccines, ensuring sterility and potency are maintained between successive draws from multi-dose presentations without adversely affecting vaccine immunogenicity.

Features and Benefits

Globally Recommended, Internationally Validated...

Globally Recommended, Internationally Validated Potency: Rabigen Mono contains the inactivated VP12 rabies virus strain at a minimum potency of >1.0 IU per dose the international standard set by the WHO and OIE for protective rabies vaccines. This potency is independently validated through rigorous batch-release testing, ensuring that every vial delivered to your pet meets the same protective standard as vaccines used in government-led rabies elimination programmes worldwide.

High Virus-Neutralising Antibody (VNA) Titre Achievement: Rabigen Mono is clinically recognised for consistently achieving high VNA titres in vaccinated animals the gold-standard immunological benchmark for rabies protection. High VNA titres correlate directly with robust, durable protective immunity, reducing the risk of vaccine failure even under conditions of high viral challenge, and supporting successful titration results in international travel health certification requirements for pets.

Broad Species Applicability Dogs, Cats, and All Mammals: Unlike species-restricted anti-rabies products, Rabigen Mono's CDSCO import approval and clinical indication covers dogs, cats, cattle, horses, and in principle all mammals providing veterinary practitioners with a single trusted product across multiple species contexts, from urban companion animal clinics to farm animal and wildlife rescue settings.

Inactivated Vaccine Impossible to Cause Rabies: As a killed (inactivated) vaccine, Rabigen Mono contains no live virus capable of replication or disease causation. The vaccine can under no circumstances cause rabies in the vaccinated animal a safety assurance that distinguishes it categorically from any live or modified-live viral vaccine and makes it universally safe for use in all healthy animals regardless of immune status.

Adjuvanted for Superior Immune Response Duration: The aluminium hydroxide gel adjuvant system amplifies and extends the humoral immune response, ensuring that the antibody titres generated after vaccination are not only high at peak but are sustained at protective levels throughout the inter-booster interval reducing the risk of titre waning between scheduled vaccination appointments.

Individually Sealed Single-Dose Vial Presentation: Each 1ml vial contains a single, precisely measured dose for one animal, eliminating the risks of under-dosing, cross-contamination, or potency degradation associated with multi-dose vials improperly stored after opening ensuring every animal receives a full, sterile, potency-assured protective dose.

CDSCO-Approved Import, Virbac-Manufactured Quality Assurance: Rabigen Mono is manufactured by Virbac SA the world's sixth largest dedicated veterinary biopharmaceutical group under GMP conditions, and imported into India under official CDSCO import permit. Every batch meets international regulatory release criteria before reaching the Indian market.

How to Use:

Rabigen Mono must be administered by a licensed veterinarian. It must not be self-administered by pet owners. Administer by intramuscular (I/M) or subcutaneous (S/Q) injection at a dose of 1ml per animal, regardless of species, age, breed, or body weight.

Storage Advice:

Store Rabigen Mono vials in a refrigerator between 2°C and 8°C at all times. Do not freeze freezing will irreversibly destroy vaccine potency and the vial must be discarded if freezing occurs. Protect from direct light. Once removed from refrigerated storage, the vaccine should be used promptly and administered without delay. Once the vial is opened, the entire contents must be used immediately do not store a partially used or opened vial for later use. Keep out of reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date printed on the vial label and outer box. Transport must be maintained within the cold chain vaccines that have been outside the 2°C to 8°C range for any significant period should be discarded and not administered.

About Virbac Animal Health India Pvt. Ltd:

Virbac an acronym of virology and bacteriology was founded in 1968 in Nice, France, by Pierre-Richard Dick, a veterinary surgeon trained at the Pasteur Institute, who recognised that the animal health needs of companion animals were being systemically underserved by a pharmaceutical industry focused overwhelmingly on livestock and human medicine. From that founding conviction, Virbac grew into the world's sixth largest dedicated veterinary biopharmaceutical group the only major veterinary company exclusively focused on animal health from its very inception, without the competing priorities of human pharmaceutical divisions. Virbac's vaccine heritage is remarkable: the company developed the first homologous vaccine against canine parvovirus in 1982, the first genetically engineered vaccine against feline leukaemia in 1988, and pioneered the oral anti-rabies vaccine for foxes milestones that have permanently shaped the trajectory of companion animal preventive medicine. Today, Virbac operates in over 100 countries with 35 sales subsidiaries, production facilities across 10 countries, and 8 research and development centres, covering the majority of pathologies across companion animals, livestock, poultry, equine, and aquaculture species. In India, Virbac Animal Health India Pvt. Ltd. a wholly owned subsidiary of Virbac SA, headquartered in Mumbai strengthened its position as the number one animal health company in the country through the strategic acquisition of Agrivet Farm Care, the animal health division of GlaxoSmithKline.Virbac India serves veterinarians and animal owners across livestock, poultry, equine, companion animal, and aquaculture segments through a national distribution network of 25 carrying and forwarding agents. Disclaimer:
Please note that Virbac Rabigen Mono is a veterinary prescription biological product an inactivated rabies vaccine and must be prescribed, handled, and administered exclusively by a licensed veterinarian. This vaccine must not be self-administered by pet owners. Vaccines are biological products that require strict cold chain maintenance between 2°C and 8°C from manufacture to point of administration any break in the cold chain may compromise vaccine potency and protective efficacy without visible change to the vial's appearance. A vaccine that has been frozen, exposed to temperatures above 8°C for extended periods, or stored incorrectly must not be used. Vaccination should be performed only in clinically healthy animals vaccination of febrile, immunocompromised, or acutely ill animals may result in inadequate immune response and should be deferred until clinical recovery. While Rabigen Mono is highly effective when properly stored, handled, and administered, no vaccine provides 100% protection in 100% of recipients under all circumstances animals that are immunocompromised, have been exposed to rabies prior to vaccination, or have received an improperly stored dose may not achieve full protective immunity. For animals with specific health conditions including chronic illness, immunosuppressive therapy, or known vaccine sensitivities, consult your veterinarian before proceeding with vaccination. Animeal supports your pet's health and lifelong protection journey but does not replace the expertise and clinical judgement of a qualified veterinary professional.

Frequently Asked Questions

From what age can puppies and kittens receive Rabigen Mono, and is it suitable for all breeds?

Rabigen Mono is indicated for use in dogs and cats from 12 weeks of age, and for cattle, horses, and other mammals as per veterinary guidance. It is suitable for all breeds and sizes of dogs and cats. The vaccine dose is 1ml regardless of the animal's species, age, breed, or body weight. Only clinically healthy animals should be vaccinated if your pet is currently unwell, under treatment, or immunocompromised, consult your veterinarian before scheduling vaccination.

How frequently should Rabigen Mono be administered, and how long does protection last?

The primary course consists of a single 1ml dose administered from 12 weeks of age. A booster dose is given one year after the primary vaccination to consolidate and extend protective immunity. Thereafter, annual revaccination is recommended or as directed by your veterinarian and applicable local municipal or government regulations. In India, annual anti-rabies vaccination is strongly recommended and in many cities legally required for pet dogs.

How effective is Rabigen Mono at protecting my pet against rabies?

Rabigen Mono is internationally validated to consistently achieve high virus-neutralising antibody (VNA) titres in vaccinated animals the established gold-standard marker of protective immunity against rabies. When properly stored, handled, and administered to a healthy animal by a veterinarian, Rabigen Mono provides reliable protection against rabies that begins approximately 14 to 28 days after vaccination and is sustained throughout the recommended inter-booster period. It meets the WHO and OIE minimum potency standard of >1.0 IU per dose, the same threshold required for vaccines used in national rabies elimination programmes.

Are there any side effects I should watch for after my pet's Rabigen Mono vaccination?

Rabigen Mono is an inactivated vaccine and cannot cause rabies under any circumstances. As with all adjuvanted injectable vaccines, mild, transient local reactions at the injection site such as slight swelling, tenderness, or firmness may occasionally be observed and typically resolve within a few days without intervention. Mild systemic signs such as temporary lethargy, reduced appetite, or low-grade fever may occur in a small proportion of animals in the 24 to 48 hours following vaccination and are a normal, expected immune response. Severe adverse reactions including anaphylaxis are very rare. If your pet shows signs of facial swelling, difficulty breathing, collapse, or persistent vomiting shortly after vaccination, contact your veterinarian immediately.
