Ingredients:
Cefotaxime Sodium (1000mg per vial): Cefotaxime Sodium is the active pharmaceutical ingredient in Taxim Injection 1gm and belongs to the third-generation cephalosporin class of beta-lactam antibiotics. At the molecular level, Cefotaxime exerts its bactericidal action by irreversibly binding to Penicillin-Binding Proteins (PBPs), enzymes located on the inner membrane of bacterial cell walls that are essential for the cross-linking of peptidoglycan strands. Peptidoglycan is the structural polymer that provides rigidity, integrity, and protective function to the bacterial cell wall. By blocking PBP-mediated transpeptidation, Cefotaxime prevents the formation and repair of peptidoglycan chains, thereby compromising cell wall integrity. This causes an osmotic imbalance, leading to rupture of the bacterial cell membrane, cellular lysis, and ultimately bacterial death. Cefotaxime is resistant to hydrolysis by many bacterial beta-lactamases, including extended-spectrum beta-lactamases (ESBLs), which makes it effective against a wide range of resistant Gram-negative organisms such as Enterobacteriaceae. It demonstrates strong bactericidal activity against Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Proteus mirabilis, Haemophilus influenzae, Streptococcus pneumoniae, and Staphylococcus aureus (non-MRSA strains), among others. Critically, Cefotaxime crosses the blood-brain barrier, making it a valuable agent in the treatment of bacterial meningitis and sepsis involving the central nervous system in companion animals.
Sodium Content (as part of the sodium salt formulation): Cefotaxime is formulated as its sodium salt to improve aqueous solubility, enabling rapid and complete reconstitution for injection. The sodium content in each 1gm vial is approximately 48mg (approximately 2.09 mEq), which is clinically relevant for patients requiring sodium restriction and should be considered when managing animals with concurrent cardiac or renal conditions.
