About Product
Virbac Virtraz Liquid 6 ml by Virbac Animal Health India Pvt. Ltd. is a concentrated veterinary ectoparasiticidal solution formulated to deliver rapid, reliable control and treatment of severe ectoparasitic infestations in dogs and large animals including cattle, sheep, camel, and pigs. Ectoparasitic infestation with ticks, mange mites, lice, and keds represents one of the most damaging and distressing dermatological challenges your canine companion or livestock animal can face. Left untreated, heavy tick burdens cause significant blood loss, anaemia, transmit vector-borne diseases including babesiosis and ehrlichiosis, and create secondary bacterial infections at attachment sites. Mange mites cause progressive, intensely pruritic dermatitis, alopecia, and skin thickening that severely compromises an animal's quality of life and immune resilience. Virtraz targets these parasites with decisive efficacy through its single, powerful active ingredient: Amitraz at a concentration of 12.5% w/v, a clinically proven formamidine acaricide with both contact-killing and tick-detaching activity. The concentrated 6 ml presentation is designed for dilution to a working wash that is applied topically by dipping or spraying, offering a practical and cost-effective solution for regular ectoparasite control. This product is recommended for use by or on the direction of a registered veterinary professional. Animeal is proud to offer Virbac Virtraz Liquid 6 ml as part of its trusted range of veterinary-grade parasite control solutions for your canine companion and livestock animals.
Ingredients:
Amitraz (12.5% w/v): Amitraz is a synthetic formamidine (amidine-class) acaricide and insecticide that has been the preferred choice of veterinarians for the management of resistant ectoparasitic infestations since its introduction in the 1970s. Its mechanism of action is distinctly different from that of organophosphates, synthetic pyrethroids, and other acaricide classes, making it a critical tool in rotation-based resistance management programmes.
Features and Benefits
Dual-Action Parasiticide: Contact Kill and Tick...
Dual-Action Parasiticide: Contact Kill and Tick Detachment:
Virtraz does not merely kill ticks on contact; its unique formamidine chemistry simultaneously disrupts the neurological mechanisms that keep feeding ticks attached to the host. This dual action means that ticks are killed and removed before they complete their blood meal, dramatically reducing the window of pathogen transmission and delivering more comprehensive protection than products with kill-only activity.
Broad-Spectrum Ectoparasitic Coverage Across Species:
A single product formulation addresses the full spectrum of clinically significant ectoparasites in both companion animals and livestock, including ticks, mites responsible for demodectic and sarcoptic mange, fleas, lice, and keds. This makes Virtraz a uniquely versatile and economical solution for multi-species households, farms, and veterinary practices managing diverse animal populations under a single ectoparasite control protocol.
Highly Concentrated Formula for Flexible and Economical Dilution:
The 12.5% w/v concentration of Amitraz in Virtraz means that a single 6 ml vial, when diluted to the prescribed working concentration of 2 ml per litre of water, yields a clinically effective working wash for regular application. This concentration-to-volume ratio delivers professional-grade ectoparasite control at a cost point that is accessible for individual pet owners and large animal keepers alike, without compromising on the quality or efficacy of the active ingredient.
Preferred by Veterinarians for Resistance Management:
Amitraz belongs to a mechanistically distinct acaricide class (formamidines) with a different mode of action from synthetic pyrethroids, organophosphates, and isoxazolines. This makes Virtraz a critical product in structured resistance management and rotation protocols, particularly in geographic regions of India where tick resistance to pyrethroids is well-documented, ensuring sustained long-term efficacy where other products may be losing their effectiveness.
Established Efficacy Against Mange, Including Demodicosis:
Amitraz remains one of the most clinically validated and veterinarian-recommended treatments for canine demodicosis, a condition caused by proliferation of Demodex canis mites in the hair follicles that can be extremely difficult to resolve with other topical treatments. The regular dip protocol with Virtraz directly targets mites within the follicular environment, alleviating the pruritus, alopecia, and secondary bacterial infection that characterise generalised demodectic mange.
