Ingredients:
Meloxicam I.P. 5 mg per tablet:Meloxicam belongs to the oxicam class of NSAIDs and functions as a preferential inhibitor of Cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) over Cyclooxygenase-1 (COX-1). At the cellular level, when tissues are injured or diseased, arachidonic acid is released from damaged cell membranes and converted by COX enzymes into prostaglandins key chemical mediators responsible for triggering pain signal amplification, vasodilation, local heat, swelling, and fever. By selectively suppressing COX-2, the inducible isoform that is upregulated predominantly at sites of inflammation, Meloxicam dramatically reduces prostaglandin synthesis in inflamed synovial tissue, periosteum, skin, and soft tissue. This COX-2 preference means Meloxicam also inhibits leukocyte infiltration into inflamed tissue, prevents the enzymatic destruction of cartilage and subchondral bone in arthritic joints, and exerts antipyretic action at the hypothalamic thermoregulatory centre. Because it exerts comparatively less inhibition of COX-1 (the constitutive isoform that maintains gastric mucosal integrity and renal perfusion), Meloxicam carries a more favourable gastrointestinal tolerance profile than non-selective NSAIDs such as aspirin or ibuprofen at therapeutic doses. The 5 mg strength of Caniflam is calibrated for medium to large breed dogs, delivering a therapeutically relevant once-daily dose that sustains plasma concentrations throughout a 24-hour cycle.
