Ingredients:
Iodine (Povidone-Iodine Complex): Iodine, delivered in a stabilised povidone-iodine complex, is the primary active ingredient in Obcodex Ointment. At the cellular level, iodine disrupts the structural integrity of bacterial cell walls and denatures essential microbial proteins, rendering a broad spectrum of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, fungi, and certain viruses non-viable on contact. The povidone carrier molecule releases free iodine gradually into the wound environment, ensuring sustained antimicrobial action without the harsh irritation associated with elemental iodine solutions. This controlled release mechanism also minimises tissue cytotoxicity, allowing the surrounding healthy cells to continue their natural repair cycle undisturbed.
Emollient and Cream Base: The smooth, non-greasy cream base functions as both a delivery vehicle and a protective barrier. It creates an occlusive microenvironment over the wound surface that retains moisture, a condition clinically established to accelerate keratinocyte migration and collagen synthesis during tissue regeneration. This barrier simultaneously shields the wound from environmental contaminants, dirt, and secondary microbial exposure between applications.
