Medicated Shampoo For Dogs
Flea and Tick Shampoo for Dogs
A medicated shampoo does one job very well: it kills what is living on your dog right now. Animeal stocks 55 of them, split between anti-tick and anti-flea shampoos, antifungal shampoos for yeast and ringworm, and shampoos for dandruff, scaling and greasy skin. We are a licensed veterinary pharmacy, so before you buy one, here is the part most sites leave out.
A Flea and Tick Shampoo Is Not a Flea and Tick Treatment
This is the single most useful thing on this page. A tick shampoo kills the fleas and ticks on your dog during the bath. Once you rinse it off and the coat dries, the protection is essentially gone.
That matters because 95 percent of a flea population is not on your dog. It is eggs and larvae in bedding, sofa seams and floor cracks. So the sequence most people follow, which is bathe the dog and hope, produces the same result every time: a clean dog on Sunday and fleas again by Wednesday. The shampoo did not fail. It was never designed to do that job.
Use a medicated shampoo when you need a fast knockdown:
- A rescue or street dog covered in ticks that you need cleared today
- A heavy visible infestation, before you start a monthly product
- A dog with skin already sore and scabbed from scratching, where a bath calms the skin as well as killing the parasites
- Puppies too young or too light for a tablet, on your vet's word
Then follow it with something that lasts. A monthly spot-on, a monthly or three-month tablet, or a collar. Those live in Flea & Tick for Dogs. Shampoo clears today. That clears the month.

Which Shampoo Do You Actually Need?
This collection holds two different kinds of product and they do not substitute for each other. An antifungal shampoo will not kill a tick. A tick shampoo will not clear a yeast infection. Match the symptom.
| What you are seeing | What you need | Look for |
|---|---|---|
| Live ticks or fleas on the coat | Anti-parasitic shampoo | Cypermethrin, permethrin, propoxur |
| Bald patches, crusts, mites diagnosed | Mange shampoo | Amitraz, ivermectin, benzoyl peroxide |
| Musty smell, red itchy skin, brown ear wax | Antifungal shampoo | Ketoconazole, miconazole, clotrimazole |
| Greasy coat, blackheads, deep infection | Degreasing shampoo | Benzoyl peroxide |
| Flaking, dandruff, dull scaly skin | Anti-scaling shampoo | Salicylic acid, selenium sulphide |
| Wet sores, hot spots, bacterial skin | Antibacterial shampoo | Chlorhexidine |

The Anti-Tick Shampoos We Stock
| Active | In stock now | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Cypermethrin | Clinar-M, Furfree | The standard Indian tick shampoo. Fast knockdown on ticks and fleas |
| Permethrin | Softas Plus | Same family, the cheapest option we carry |
| Propoxur | Bolfo, Hittix, Zeck | A different chemical family. Useful when a pyrethroid has stopped working |
| Amitraz | Mectin-AZ | For mites and demodectic mange, not routine flea washing |
| Ivermectin | Ivtraz | Mange and mites, used alongside vet treatment |
If one active stops working on your dog, switch family rather than brand. Cypermethrin and permethrin are both pyrethroids, so swapping one for the other changes very little. Moving to propoxur is a real change.
Safety: What Not To Do
Never use a dog tick shampoo on a cat. Cypermethrin and permethrin are pyrethroids and cats cannot break them down. The result is tremors, seizures and death. This is not about using less. Buy a cat product for a cat.
- Amitraz is for dogs only. Not cats, not young puppies, and not without asking if your dog is very small or on other medicines
- Do not use a pyrethroid shampoo on the same day as a pyrethroid spot-on. You are stacking the same chemical twice. Leave at least 48 hours, and tell us what your dog is already on
- If your dog is a Collie, Sheltie or Australian Shepherd type, mention it before buying an ivermectin product. Some of these breeds carry a gene mutation that changes how they handle the drug
- Keep every medicated shampoo out of eyes and ears, and out of the mouth. Wet the head last and rinse it first
- Wear gloves. These are insecticides, not soap
Medicated Dog Shampoo for Mange
Mange is mites, not fleas. There are two kinds. Sarcoptic is intensely itchy, spreads fast, and passes to other dogs and to people. Demodectic is usually not itchy at first and shows as bald patches around the eyes and muzzle.
Get a skin scrape before you buy anything. They look similar, they need different handling, and a vet can tell them apart in ten minutes. Treating the wrong one wastes weeks while the skin gets worse.
Once you know, a medicated shampoo is usually part of the plan rather than all of it. Amitraz and ivermectin shampoos target the mite. A benzoyl peroxide shampoo such as Petben, Sulbenz or Keramed flushes the hair follicles, which is why vets often pair it with demodex treatment. Most mange cases also need an oral or spot-on product, and often an antibiotic for the skin infection underneath.
How To Bathe a Dog With a Medicated Shampoo
Contact time is the step everyone skips, and it is the reason the shampoo "did not work".
- Brush the dog dry first. Matted fur stops the shampoo reaching skin
- Soak the coat properly. Down to the skin, not just the top layer. Wet the head last
- Work the shampoo in and leave it on for 5 to 10 minutes. Check your bottle. Set a timer on your phone, because it feels far longer than it is. Rinsing after one minute is the same as not using it
- Rinse until the water runs completely clear. Leftover residue causes more itching than it cures
- Dry thoroughly, especially skin folds, armpits and between toes. Damp skin grows yeast
- Comb the coat as it dries with a fine tick comb and drop what you find into soapy water
How often? Follow the label, and when there is no label instruction, once or twice a week during active treatment. Medicated shampoos strip the coat, so more is not better. Once the problem clears, go back to a plain shampoo.
What a Medicated Shampoo Costs
List prices, before the discount that shows at checkout.
| Type | Roughly |
|---|---|
| Medicated soap bar, 75g | ₹75 to ₹95 |
| Anti-tick shampoo, 200ml | ₹192 to ₹326 |
| Antifungal shampoo, 200ml | ₹210 to ₹450 |
| Benzoyl peroxide, 200ml | ₹370 to ₹480 |
| Prescription skin ranges | ₹380 to ₹645 |
A 200ml bottle gives roughly four to six baths for a medium dog. The cheapest real anti-tick option we carry is Softas Plus at ₹192. The soap bars are the cheapest entry point of all, and are genuinely useful for street rescues where you are washing several dogs.

When a Shampoo Is Not the Answer
- Skin that is weeping, bleeding or smells bad. That is an infection and it needs treating from the inside
- Itching that has gone on more than two weeks despite treatment. Something else is driving it
- Bald patches that are spreading. Get a scrape before you buy another bottle
- A dog that is off food, feverish or losing weight alongside skin trouble
- Any twitching, drooling or wobbliness after a bath. Rinse the dog with plain water and call us immediately
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the best flea and tick shampoo for dogs?
For a straightforward knockdown on a dog covered in ticks, a cypermethrin shampoo such as Clinar-M or Furfree, or permethrin as Softas Plus. If a pyrethroid has stopped working, switch to a propoxur shampoo such as Bolfo, Hittix or Zeck. There is no single best bottle, and any shampoo you use needs a monthly product behind it.
How long does a tick shampoo protect my dog?
Only during the bath and a short while after. Once the coat is rinsed and dry there is little to no lasting protection. Fleas from your carpet can re-infest the same day. Use a spot-on, tablet or collar for the ongoing cover.
Can I use a dog tick shampoo on my cat?
No. Cypermethrin and permethrin are pyrethroids and cats cannot break them down, which causes tremors, seizures and death. Using less does not make it safe. Buy a product made for cats.
Which medicated dog shampoo works for mange?
Amitraz shampoos such as Mectin-AZ and ivermectin shampoos such as Ivtraz target the mite. Benzoyl peroxide shampoos flush the hair follicles and are often paired with demodex treatment. Get a skin scrape first, because sarcoptic and demodectic mange look similar and are handled differently. Amitraz is for dogs only.
How often can I bathe my dog with a medicated shampoo?
Follow the label. Where there is no instruction, once or twice a week during active treatment. These shampoos strip natural oils, so more frequent is not better. Return to a plain shampoo once the problem clears.
Why did the shampoo not work?
Usually contact time. Most medicated shampoos need 5 to 10 minutes on the coat before rinsing, and most people rinse after one. Set a timer. The other common reason is that the house was never treated, so the dog was re-infested within days.
Can you order a shampoo you do not stock?
Yes. WhatsApp +91 90044 85093 or email bark@animeal.in with the product name or a photo of your vet's note. We will confirm availability, price and timing before you commit. If we cannot get it, we will say so and suggest the closest equivalent.
